Case Study:
A 37 year old plumber from a large company in Atlanta,
GA was referred to Providian Physical
Therapy and Functional Capacity Specialists. In 2005,
the patient had suffered a herniated lumbar disc with
subsequent lumbar fusion surgery. The patient completed
36 visits of traditional physical therapy with good
results and was returned to work light duty.
However, he could not sustain the physical demands
necessary for a commercial plumber and was placed on
no work status by his physician. A Providian
Functional Capacity Evaluation was performed
to objectively identify his current physical capabilities.
With the full cooperation of the company, a Providian
Job Site Analysis was then conducted.
A new and productive job description was established
appropriate for the patient’s physical capabilities.
The patient successfully returned to full
duty in the shop facility assembling plumbing
components for installation in residential homes.
